Importance Of Music To Health

Music has a tremendous effect on health and is a big part of ages, irrespective of caste, creed, color or religion. Since the early human history music has touched culture all over the world. In fact, there is not a single human being on earth that has lived without music.

Music tranquilizes the human mind. A human brain is the controlling headquarter of all the nervous system in the human body involving sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves through endocrinal secretions. So, music has a number of health benefits including lowering anxiety and stress, changing moods, accessing different state of mind and brain development. Music is also used in meditation which is a capable health benefit. Several studies have shown that music has a lot of effects on human health. Music education at an early age stimulates the brain at the child in many ways improving verbal, communication and visual skills.

 Music Makes People Happier

Listening to a music hits the person in a special way and cause the human brain to release dopamine which is known as happy or feel-good chemical. When it releases from the brain causes to feel emotions like happiness, excitement, joy etc.

One study shows that music with a quick tempo played in a major key made people feel happy, while music with a slow tempo in a minor key more easily led to a feeling of sadness.

Music Reduces Depression And Anxiety

Researchers from Drexel University found that cancer patients who either listened to a music or worked with a music therapist experienced a reduction in anxiety had better blood pressure level and improved moods, positive effect on the psyche, pain, and quality of life as well.

“The evidence suggests that music interventions may be useful as a complementary treatment to people with cancer,” Joke Bardt.

 Music Improves Sleep Quality

Research has found that listening to music at various times promotes better sleep patterns and created more restful sleep. So, in some cases, music can be used to treat insomnia effectively.

“We listen to music with our muscles”- Nietzsche. Studies have shown that music strengthens the heart and improves the recovery time of patients who were suffering from heart disease.

An observation made at Massachusetts General Hospital found that heart patient confined to a bed that listened to music for 30 minutes had lower blood pressure, slow heart rates, and less distress than those who didn’t listen to music.

 Music Can Boost Up Immune System

Listening to music can reduce the level of the stress hormone cortisol which is responsible for weakening the immune system. It increases the risk of heart disease, interfering with learning and memory, lowering bone density, blood pressure. The research found that by listening to just 50 minutes of preference music increase the levels of antibodies in the human body.
